But charisma only wins people’s attention.
Once you have their attention, you have to have something to tell them
Daniel Quinn
A well-known saying states that the great epochs give birth to great men. Whenever there are serious changes in the life of any society or state, a special breed of people comes to the foreground. They remarkably differ from the rest by their exceptional ambition and strong leadership qualities; they make decisions and take responsibility for them. They are always outstanding people with a bright appearance, strong character, confidence and determination. They are extremely loyal to the ideas that make sense to their life and try to give an answer to the main challenges of their time. They are almost always excellent speakers, brilliant masters of speech and expressive gestures. They have an undoubted ability to subordinate other people to their will. It is believed that these people have some special quality, charisma. Charisma has a particular effect on people by the ability to subordinate to one’s will, cause trust and sympathy.
Charisma helps in any situation where you need or want to influence other people [1, 2, 3]. Charisma includes a number of aspects:
- religious;
- sociological;
- culturological;
- social;
- political, et.
Politics is an accompanying attribute of a human society. As a rule, a charismatic political leader seeks to change the existing social reality in accordance with his ideas about the ideal reality. The historical mission of a charismatic political leader is to change the reality. Political charisma has a serious impact on people and the whole society as well. Political charisma is a part of life in hard times (crisis, revolutions and wars) and in ordinary times. Furthermore, political charisma will likely exist as long as politics exists.
A charismatic leader has a craft of public speaking, a unique ability to infect minds with ideas. He formulates a reasonable way to solve problems and paints an attractive picture of possible outcomes.
A charismatic politician should have:
-- neat, smart appearance;
-- personal magnetically attractive force;
-- enthusiasm for the task performing;
-- identification with the work he performs (it gives the impression that the person is in his place);
-- optimism;
-- confidence;
-- composure;
-- well-developed communication skills;
-- ability to set clear goals;
-- ability to focus on the essentials;
-- ability to motivate himself and others;
-- ability to make decisions;
-- ability to find the right approach;
-- charm;
-- ability to be a role model;
-- ability to establish long-term and other interpersonal relationships;
-- positive outlook on life [4, 6].
On the whole, a charismatic politician has a smart appearance, good communication skills and a high level of ambitions. He is always pleased with himself. Additionally, he is both interesting and interested, demonstrates intelligence, can persuade through his words and encourage with his optimism [5].
Anyone who is trying to make a career should be able to influence people because any political, management position leads to the situation where one has to influence other people. Any self-respecting politician should work on his charismatic image. A charismatic politician is always an optimist who radiates a powerful internal energy. He can listen and come to an agreement; has a good walking, bearing and gestures; trusts himself, respects himself and others. He has the drive and determination, courage, strong motivation and well-defined speech.
