My name is Fyodorova Kseniya Petrovna. I am an English teacher. I work in the boarding-school № 24 in Taishet. It is a small town in Irkutsk region. I have been working as a teacher for 6 years. Our school is a very nice and comfortable. I have good condition of work here. Railway station helps to support our school. In my essay I would like to raise a very serious problem. It is attitude of pupils and society at whole at teacher’s job. It is not very popular to be a teacher. Modern teacher is a woman at the age of 45–70 from my pupils who works in schools. One day my pupils wrote the composition which called “I would not like to be a …”
When I checked them I was shocked. Most of them consider our profession” uninteresting, boring, stressful, not prestigious, low-paid “only negative words, they wrote that almost all of their teachers are angry and tense. Even in SMI and different TV programmes we often hear unpleasant words. For example: «Only teachers can wear in such way» or «They have bad taste». What are the reasons?
There are a lot of another difficult and boring professions. In my opinion each job has advantages and disadvantages. Teachers must change these stereotypes. Really it is not easy. Three years ago I took part in the competition in Moscow. It is called «My best lesson» We had some lectures and I could see teachers from different places in Russia. They are very old, tired and tense women teachers. There are many reasons. The main reason is a lows salary. Our minister makes us fill a lot of papers. We have not time to teach children. Nowadays behaviour of children at the lesson is terrible. But if we are going to continue our work in such sphere, we should change your life!
Start with our lessons, pupils and teachers often feel boring at the lesson. Our aim is to do our lessons more interesting and different. And we need to think about our image. Besides our difficult and stressful work there are so many hobbies. Every person must have them. We can go in for sports or grow the flowers, knitting and so on. I am sure it helps us to be happier. As for me my hobbies are swimming dancing and growing flowers.
As for lessons, there are some advices: Let’s speak about them but they are connected with English lessons.
The first advice: Teachers must always praise their children. All of us know that the American teachers often use this way. Here is a table which called «101 Ways to Praise a child»

P. S. Remember, a smile is worth 1000 words!
I find this way very positive! These words help teachers to do our pupils more confident and successful. It is so simple to say pleasant words.
The second advice: The dialogues. They are important at our English lessons. We must pay a special attention to them. Pupils like to make their own dialogues. They enjoy to work in pairs. Give them different topics. These phrases will be used by pupils in their real life because they travel a lot.
The third advice: Plays are very useful to learn English words. I think is a good and effective way to learn them. It helps me but we should not play for a lesson. It takes only 10 minutes.
The fourth advice: «To think about proverbs and quotations or problems». Pupils can divide into small groups and think about them, about the meaning. For example: (1. East or west — home is best. East or west — Russia is best. 2. Life is full of cactuses but you do not have to sit on them. 3. If life gives you lemons — make lemonade. 4. If life gives you English books — read them. 5. If life gives you strict teachers — thank them. 6. If life gives you strict parents — obey them.) Small groups work under them, then present their opinions in English before the classroom. It can be posters, it is a creative work. So teachers can catch two rabbits.
The fifth advice: It is work with English songs. In my opinion, all pupils like to sing songs especially small children. I often use this way and we have some traditions. When my pupils have their birthday «Happy birthday to you» or «Jingle Bells». Many songs are used as a gymnastic in the middle of the lesson by me. Children sing and repeat some movements. It is funny.
The sixth advice: All of us know how it is difficult to have last lessons before holidays. All are tired. Don’t forget it. Invent something interesting, easy. Relax yourself. Make a beautiful postcard on a holiday, sign them in English for friends or relatives.
Watch an English films or cartoons then discuss it. (Do you like it? Why? Why not? What are the main heroes? What problems are raised in it? And so on. For a change you can drink tea and use different polite phrases in English. (Would you like some… or Help yourself …).
The seventh advice : It is my favorite advice. Its name is «Surprise». Invent who visits your lesson. It can be Santa Claus or another heroes. Children will be happy to get such «Surprise». They speak about presents or Christmas traditions. If I had an opportunity I would like to invite foreigners people at my lesson. It would be cool.
The eight advice: It is «Feedback». I use it at the end of study year. Ask your pupils’ opinions. They need to write down what they like or dislike, what are the most interesting or difficult for them. They are clever and modern. Sometimes children can get useful things about our lesson.
That’s all! I hope these advices will help to create your lessons more different and interesting. Don’t forget about your image. So we can break unpleasant stereotypes about us TEACHERS. Everything depends on us!!!
